Loverboy is a Canadian rock group formed in 1980 in Calgary, Alberta. Throughout the 1980s, Loverboy became one of the best bands rock sales in North America, rolling out numerous successes in both Canada and the United States. It produced four multi-platinum albums and sold millions records. Loverboy was initially rejected by many labels U.S. before finally signing with Columbia Records in Canada, then recording their first album 20 March 1980, with vocalist Mike Reno, Paul Dean on guitar, bassist Scott Smith, Doug Johnson on keyboards, and Matt Frenette on drums. Loverboy hits, such as "Turn Me Loose" and "Working For The Weekend", are now part of canon rock, and can still be heard on many radio stations classic rock United States and Canada.

Loverboy was born in ordinary circumstances. It all started in Calgary when Mike Reena (formerly of the band Moxy) was presented to Paul Dean (formerly of the band Street) in the Refinery Night Club. Dean was rehearsing a new band in a warehouse with a friend from Reno, and Mike was stopped jam. Reno and Dean wrote songs together in the coming weeks on guitar and drums. Meanwhile, Doug Johnson, working with another band at the time, joined, and Loverboy was born.

To help meet Canadian content laws, Loverboy signed with Columbia Records Canada. On 20 March 1980 Loverboy was studying you with producer Bruce Fairbairn and engineer Bob Rock and recorded his first self-titled album.
In a big hit that summer, Loverboy sold over 700,000 records in Canada, only. Obviously realizing that Loverboy had something to do, Columbia Records of the United States decided to sign the band for a version on the U.S. album Loverboy of America made its debut in November 1980 and eventually sold two million copies. Massive Tour followed that year with Loverboy put in over 200 shows with bands like Cheap Trick, ZZ Top, Kansas, and Def Leppard.

"Get Lucky," Loverboy album was released following That same year, just in time when the band was the opening of Travel, containing the hit tracks "Working For The Weekend" and "When It's Over". This was the biggest-selling album Loverboy in the U.S., peaking at number # 7 on the Billboard charts and selling over four million copies. The luck held this year again, with Loverboy receive five Juno Awards, Canada's highest award in music, in one year, this record still stands today. Loverboy was going to receive JUNOS three more, bringing the total to eight, most received by a single group or individual.

Since the first successes, Loverboy has made other conquests. In 1984, Loverboy recorded the song in the United States team for the Olympics, "Nothing's Gonna Stop You Now". "Lovin ' Every minute of it, "Loverboy fourth album, was released in 1985 with his single titled" This Could Be The Night "became his first U.S. Billboard Top 10 hit.
Loverboy had a break in 1988 due to the departure of Doug Johnson and creative differences between Dean and Reno. The group met briefly in 1989 to promote the band itself (with Valentino Dominelli on keyboards instead of Johnson), but it broke again at the end of the tour. Loverboy reunited in 1991.

2005, Loverboy celebrated 25 years together, and began performing in selected cities to commemorate this milestone.
