It's easy to say when there is a diminished chord in a piece of music … that is when the guitarist usually stop playing and start scratching their heads.

Yes, diminished chords have been known to blistering guitar players in the brain, but does not have to! Part of the confusion comes from the different types of diminished chords.

There are three note triad decline, the four notes down version 7 and then his cousin Average fell musical chord, also known as the minor seventh .. ground five chords but that's another story.

Today I will focus on the diminished seventh chord, as it is the most common type of chord diminished in popular music.

Generally when we see a minor chord are referring to a diminished seventh.

Decrease chord structure:

(a) the three note triad diminished the formula is 1-B3-B5

(b) the four note diminished seventh chord formula is 1-B3-B5-b7

Note: the symbol of "BB" is a double plane, which simply means that flatten the note is, twice, move down the frets note two frets (away from you).

The symbols used for writing down chord chords are: Co, Dim C or Cdim7

Diminished seventh chord:

Creating diminished seventh chords and design their own form of chords is very easy once you know how to spell them!

Here's how it works: Use the first, seventh floor notes third, fifth floor flat double of the major scale to find the right notes to create a consistent decline.

Let's start by creating a chord CDIM …

Step 1. Use the major scale as a starting point

Step 2. Applying the formula for chord construction 1-B3-B5-b7

Step 3. Locate the appropriate notes on guitar

In the key of C:

C major scale = CDEFGABC

Remove the 1-B3-B5-b7 scale notes = C-Eb-GB-BBB and that's how we mean C diminished seventh.

Cdim7 = C-Eb-GB-BBB

When you try it on guitar you will notice that BBB is the same pitch as the note "A".

Using this same approach, this is how we create other diminished seventh chords.

from …

Ebdim7

Step 1. Eb major scale Eb-FG-Ab-Bb-CD-Eb

Step 2. extract 1-B3-B5-b7

Answer: Ebdim7 = Eb-GB-AC

behold As we love …

Ddim7

Step 1. Scale of D major DEF # #-GABC-D

Step 2. extract 1-B3-B5-b7

Answer: Ddim7 = DF-Ab-B

Musical Applications: Mainly used as a connecting line to create an added strain and dynamic.

In the following example I am using the diminished seventh chord as a type of music "fills" to create a sense of upward movement in the sequence of chords.

Example 1.

A / / / | Bm / / / | C # m / / / | D / / / | becomes …

A / A # dim / | BM / CDIM / | C # m / / / | D / / / | etc.

Notice how I used diminished chords? I added a diminished chord, which was a semitone sharper the original chord.

They are also great for the introduction:

Example 2

C / / / | G / / / | | might play well …

C / C # dim / | Dm7 / G7 / | |

The only consistent quality: Any note in the chord can function as eg key note, written Cdim7 C-Eb-GB-A, therefore this chord could also be appointed Ebdim7, Gbdim7 or Adim7.

When you think about the options for enharmonic Eb = D # and Gb = F # would have a total of six names to the string form.

Abstract:

Cdim7 could also be called …

Ebdim7, D # dim7, Gbdim7, F # dim7, Adim7

Application Fretboard: Each diminished seventh chord is repeated every three frets, which means that could play any diminished seventh chord, move in exactly the same three frets higher or lower in pitch and still be playing the same chord, just a different investment in the rope.
