Electric guitar and acoustic?

Ok so I need some help.
When you play the acoustic guitar, of course if it’s in tune, the strings ring beautifully when strummed. (I mean a downstroke)
But it doesn’t work that way with an electric guitar.
In fact, a downstroke sounds horrible.
How do you prevent this and get the electric guitar to sound decent?
Any online sites that help with this?
i DO have it hooked up to an amplifier. omg that’s common sense.
