Artists like Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, and Green Day have become the three chord rock song in its own art form. Classic American artists have become dear hundreds of songs easy guitar worldwide. Here are some of my favorites.

1. Authority Song – by John Mellencamp. This classic rocker features the first three chords of almost all guitarists learn very soon after the first choice of the instrument, ie the root chords E, A and D. There is virtually no end to the series of pieces written by composers in which only feature of these three chords.

Rock 2. In the U.S. – by John Mellencamp. Another typical song style of John Mellencamp. A hard driving beat with the same root notes of E's favorite position, A and D. Playing the I-IV-chord pattern V (of which ADE) is a common example is adapted from a blues style, changing times and rhythms of a song that sounds more lively.

3. Runnin 'Down a Dream – by Tom Petty. The chord pattern may be slightly different (substitute G for D), but their number remains the same: 3. Library of the Tom Petty song is full of easy guitar songs like this.

The best part of learning easy guitar songs like these is that the patterns lend themselves to simple use many other melodies that almost all guitarists can play. When friends gather to play alone in a song is learned very easily adapted to similar songs.
