I guess it's an established fact that guitarists are poor sight readers. Maybe not, but the rest of us!

One of the reasons why it is difficult for many guitarists to read music is that you can find the same note on different strings. It is quite easy to master the notes on the first four frets of his guitar, but when you reach the fifth fret you have to decide which string to play a note and you also have to find the fret. Decision making has never been easier!

Do you have a good ear? Can a good ear be your enemy when it comes to read music for guitar?

Students with a good ear, like you and me, can develop strategies to find notes without really learning the exact position on the fingerboard. One strategy is to listen the way around until you find the right note on another string.

This strategy of course work but do not develop their reading skills at first sight. A good ear is an asset but nevertheless you have to make a conscious effort to learn the frets in order to be able to find the notes automatically when looking at the score.

Many guitarists when playing sheet music are continually looking at the fretboard in order to quell their fingers on the right fret. This is not good for reading skills at first sight. And not the neck!

One reason why I always look at the pitch is that you're used to it. The remedy for this is, of course, practice to read the score without looking at the fingerboard.

Practice this skill with easy pieces in the first position and pay attention to correct fingering to help you find your notes without looking.

Just an honest question: Do you learn to read when sightread view?

When he sees practice of reading has to be aware of the fact that you can not use the same piece of sheet music on many occasions, perhaps only once, what is kidding yourself!

After practicing on a piece of music is of no use to the more sightreading skills development. Material is required back to work again. Play a lot of easy pieces that you can reproduce accurately the first time without looking at his fingers.
