If there is one thing many guitarists of the past have learned of the majority, would probably have to be tab or guitar tablature. If you've been playing guitar for a while, then it would probably be already familiar with this method of notation, and may in fact have been using it yourself. If you are not yet familiar with what form and are eager to find out, you've come to the right place! This will give you a basic primer on the guitar tab, which should provide sufficient information for further study.
Guitar tab is a method of notation in the notes on the frets of the guitar are plotted on a grid. From left to right, the network approaches the guitar fretboard from the head to the body. Horizontal lines represent the guitar strings, and Vertical lines represent the frets. In the strings of this graph are placed numbers represent the fingers to use when you fret the note. Tablature Guitar therefore gives the following information: place the note on the fretboard and what is going to use fingers to worry about the note.
Now, as you can imagine, this makes for a whole system of notation is easy to understand, as most beginners predictably drawn to the tablature as a learning tool. This makes it possible for beginners to learn their favorite songs quickly, because there are a lot of guitar tablature out there that covers most of current popular songs. In a sense, guitar tablature can help a beginner to improve very quickly, since he or she can start playing immediately to the parties, even quite complicated without having to actually learn to read music.
The disadvantage of this however is that guitar tablature is a relatively limited musical notation, especially compared with the standard notation. Guitar tablature for example, specifies only the notes to be played and the fingering, and I really do not give information on the subtleties of expression and timing that you can use while playing. While learning guitar tablature definitely teach you a thing or two, you want to increase later this rudimentary knowledge by exploring methods traditional learning.
You should also keep in mind that most guitar tablature that you find on the Internet almost always is transcribed by guitarists like you. This is not necessarily a bad thing, although you have to be careful with guitar tablature that has been less accurately transcribed.
While guitar tablature certainly give you a long way from the beginning, this should be seen as a means to an end. It can be used as a starting point for further exploration in the various aspects of learning the guitar, and you'll be well on your way to a great future as a guitarist capable.
