How do I hook up my second Wii guitar for Guitar Hero III?

My friend and I both own guitar hero III for Wii and were excited to not have to wait for the single guitar to be sold. But when we put the second wiimote in the game won’t recognize it when you go to multiplayer. Do two guitars from the Guitar Hero III bundle not work for multi-player???

It has nothing to do with the actual guitar, but the Wii remote in the guitar. Is the second remote synced as Wii Remote 2?
