Guitar Amplifiers Explained
What’s a dual (or triple) rectifier?
I’ve heard about dual and triple rectifiers, for example mesa boogie rectifiers…..well, I don’t want you to explain me in a technical language, since I am a guitarist and I don’t know much about watts, signals, vacuum tubs and stuff like that. I need to know why guitarists use it, how it affects the sound of the guitar, why it is used, etc.
I watched a few videos on youtube and I saw some people and bands having that kind of box on the amplifier, and I think that is the rectifier, or the solo head, whatever….well, what is it exactly?
The word rectifier isn’t really technical language…it’s Mesa’s word for describing how many types of tube the amp can use. In most tube amps, you need to use a certain style of tube. In Dual rectifiers, you can choose between two different styles and in triples you have 3 options. Different styles of tubes offer different tones so Mesa amps are super customizable right out of the box and you don’t need to be an electronic engineer to make the switch between the tubes.
