How to create feedback from guitar through monitors?

Ok so I run my Vox ac30 offstage and mic it so I can only hear it through the floor monitors. My question is how would I create feedback? Since i dont have my amp by me to do it should I just stand in front of the monitor and let my strings ring openly until it creates feedback?

If you want to hang a note with feedback, you have to have that acoustic link between the guitar and the amp.

The only problem with using monitors is since they are full range (with the high frequency horn), then you might wind up with a squeal instead of the acoustic feedback you’re looking for.

I’ve worked with a lot of guitarists who run their rig like you do (since it makes life easier for the FOH engineer). But, they will have an extension cabinet off the amp pointed back at them long with their floor monitors for getting feedback effects.

Work with your monitor engineer…it may require some adjustment of the EQ through the monitors to make it work but it can be done. Otherwise, look at an extension cabinet (or a small combo amp) aimed back at you.

Good luck.
