Guitar For Kids

What’s a good age for kids to start playing guitar?

My girls (ages 9 and 11) want a guitar. I don’t play much. Are their hands going to big enough to play very many chords? Is there such a thing as a kids’ guitar that has a thinner neck and strings closer together?

my daughter has been playing since she was 8, she’s now 13. She plays classical and performs as well, so starting as early as possible is always the way to go. We found a cute small guitar for her to begin on and it was much easier, there is no way she could have begun on a full size. She’s on a full size now, but still likes to play with her old ones!

Oh another important factor is my daughter loves her instructor which I think made all the difference. She didn’t make my daughter do all the silly “baby” stuff. She started her on real classical pieces and made sure she learned to note read, not just read chords, so she can now play any piece put in front of her. This is important if your girls wanted to use their music to assist them in getting college scholarships!
Good Luck!
