Guitar Sounds Online
Is it more cheaper to buy a guitar at a store, or online?
Basically everything the question asks. Oh, and does anybody know if the Ibanez V50 plays well ? And can you recommend good sounding/good quality guitars ? Thanks a bunch !
Little stores are the most expensive (only by about £5-£10) but it will be more friendly and personal.
Bigger shops have a wider range and better prices because they can afford to buy from the manufacturers in more quantity and thus get a higher discount.
Online (assuming we’re talking quite big online places) postage usually isn’t too much of an issue but even great stores will send things out set-up badly and they may well get damaged in the post.
Pros & cons to each:
Little stores – slightly higher prices but more friendly and personal
Big stores – higher discounts
Online – price varies but instruments often arrive badly done, even from great retail.
Also, if you find any problems when you play it they can fix it there, online you have to make a trip out or attempt to do it yourself.
The ibanez V50 is a very cheap guitar, if you wish to save money in the long run buy something a little more ambitious (a cheap guitar is usually fine to LEARN on but when you get good [in 6 months maybe] you’ll want something else).
Try a yamaha APX 500 if you like Acoustics, it has good looks, good sound, it’s nice and slim, and costs about £240 (excellent quality at the price, too).
Or if you want an electric:
Stratocasters/Super strats – Squier Classic Vibe Series £225, Yamaha Pacfica 112J (strat) and 112V (a bit more stylish) each £200
Telecasters – Squier Classic Vibe £225, Squier Standard £200
SGs and Les Pauls- Epiphone SG400 £200 Epiphone Les Paul Studio £200
Aim for about £180-£230 and you should find a guitar that you will be happy with and will grow with you. Yamaha, Squier, usually good stuff for the price.
