I need help … guitar?

Okay, I bought a guitar the other day, I think his electric guitar. and, well. I wanted to learn to play some songs on it, but I'm hopelessly confused. So I looked for some online guitar lessons and found this: http://guitar.about.com/library/weekly/aa071200j.htm So I'm pretty sure I did what she asked me to do. I grabbed the rope with my selection, and requires, as said, and that makes this' ting! noise. and well. I do not think his course. I think I might be putting too much pressure on the rope? or something like that? As I said, I am hopelessly confused. Please help? Thank you very much:) Edit: I think you can have? I'm not exactly sure, but are supposed to do that "ting!" whenl noise i start it? It did help! Also holding me wrong, and my fingers were touching other strings. >.> Lol. but yes, that was the problem, thank you very much:)

Make sure you are placing your finger between the metal frets. try to touch the wood between them .. Does that help?
