Why do I like banjo so much? What makes a person choose their instrument?

What is it that I love banjo so much? Is their a scientific explanation? I just love twangin the banjo, playing different tunes, it’s just so awesome! Why do most people choose the guitar? Why the drums? Or the Bass, Ukelele or Flute? Why why why? I can’t stand the Violin, yet most people can’t stand the banjo? Why why why?

In terms of psychological research, most of the studies of instrument choice have been about gender differences. Boys choose different instruments than girls do. For example, girls seem to prefer higher pitched instruments.

My personal opinion is that something about the sounds produced by an instrument resonate with the individual’s own “wiring”. Some instruments, such as piano, violin, etc. seem to resonate with most people (I’m not a violin fan, either). Other instruments resonate with fewer – banjo is one, probably oboe, tuba, as well. And then you develop a relationship with the instrument and if it’s “love” you’ve hit the mark.
