Self teaching. . .?

anybody know links online where i can learn to teach myself to play the guitar? and do you think self teaching is a good idea?

I don;t know where you can find free guitar lessons online but I have learned banjo techniques from you tube.
I really think that self teaching is a great idea if you are dedicated. Many great performers self taught themselves, and so can you!
