Is Guitar Hero a good game for a kid who wants to learn guitar?

My son wants an electric guitar and has no idea how to play one. Would guitar hero be a good substitute? Does it teach guitar skills?
So what is a good way for him to learn guitar?

I’d say yes actually. While guitar hero will have little benefit skill wise, i know a lot of people who loved guitar hero so much that they took up real guitar. However if you want to give your son the best chance for playing guitar:

A: Buy him an acoustic, not an electric. This is mainly for cost reasons and portability- if you buy an electric you have to buy an amp, where as with an acoustic you can pick up a decent beginner guitar for $ 50-100, Which is cheaper than guitar hero.

B: If your son wants to play well, get him a teacher. They’re not cheap, but theres far to many guitarist who teach themselves guitar who can’t read music, can’t play hard peices, and just know a few chords. Of course if your kid just wants to play for fun ignore my advice.

C: Get him an electric guitar later on. It’s important that he doesn’t stop playing, so the electric is like a reward. Don’t waste money on a $600 Guitar, by a cheap guitar and get a really good amp. The Guitar is irrelevent to the sound quality.

How much should I charge for guitar lessons?

I am an intermediate guitarist looking to earn money for gigging equipment, and I thought that teaching children to play the guitar would be a good way to earn much money, and I explore as guitarist. I have 16 children seem to like me, and I have taught several of my friends guitar a lot on guitar, without any kind of theory of complicated music to it. Obviously I have no credentials real music, so I do not know much about the theory of guitar. How much should I charge for a lesson in 30 minutes or less?
