At Drongo and George Mann, founded the Guild Guitar Company in 1952. His studio is in New York and its first line of guitars made by a small selection arch-top acoustic and electric model aircraft carrier. In 1955, the guild had introduced arch-top acoustics to their line up. Also in 1955, George Mann left the company and the Drongo taken full control.
To meet the needs of the popular Rock and Jazz musicians at the time, the guild said the construction of their guitars with carefully selected woods, lacquers and high quality hand wound pickups. This combination created a very well built guitar producing attractive warm tone.
The business continued to grow and demand for more guitars, bring to relocate to a larger factory in Hoboken, New Jersey. Guild continued success in the 50's and 60's, and drew the attention of great guitarists like Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Richie Havens, John Lee Hooker, Roy Orbison, Keith Richards, Muddy Waters and Howlin 'Wolf.
In 1966 the Company increased its union to the factory, once again, so who moved to the larger plant in Westerly, RI. Guild also sold this year to electronics company Avnet Inc.
In 1995 the company was sold again, this time to the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. He also moved his factory to Corona, CA.
This would not be the last move Guild because in 2004 they moved their entire production sound Tacoma, WA, due to the purchase of the company Fender Guitar Tacoma. The Tacoma plant was a massive 42,000 rentable square feet, and adding the production of Guild acoustics there, become one of the largest volume manufacturers of acoustic guitars in the United States.
Guild also produced some reissues of their popular 60 and 70 models are sold under the brand names of Korea and DeArmond. The models included were Bluesbird, Starfire and Pilot Bass Series. Also in 2005, Fender came out with the Guild GAD series acoustic guitars made in China.
Many talented and famous guitarists throughout the year have recognized the Guild guitar. Besides those mentioned above, some other players in Guild are Bryan Adams, Johnny Cash, Sheryl Crow, John Denver, Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia, Brian May, Slash, Bruce Springsteen, Stephen Stills, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tom Waits and Hank Williams III.
