What Is Better For My Computing Needs – Dual-Core Or Quad-Core?
I’m building myself a new high-tolerance PC for all my applications.
My current computer is VERY VERY SLOW, so that’s why I I’m upgrading. My computer tech specs: 512mb ram, 160gb hard drive, 2.2GHz, AMD Athlon 64 3500+.
So this is what I do on my computer currently:
-Semi-professional audio recording with a basic Pro Tools
-Guitar modeling software (Line 6 TonePort)
-Video editing (I don’t do this now, but I will on the new computer I’m building)
-iTunes music browsing
-Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
-Heavy internet usage – many tabs open at once
-Occasional gaming
I do a lot of multitasking, especially when the internet and AIM is open. I have heard that quad-cores are better for multitasking, but dual-cores are better for single, high-demanding applications. Because I do both, multitasking and demanding applications, Which is better for me when I build my new computer?
If it was me, I would just take the computer you have and add more memory. Before going and spending money for all that try adding more memory, 512 is not to speedy. A fresh install of your Operating System may speed things up. Having said that, if you still want to go with the new build, You should be fine with an upper-end Dual-Core. But with that install as much memory as you can afford, up to 4GB is allowed.
